Medifunds extends to HIV treatment (update)

From 1 February 2010, the Ministry of Health (MOH) will extend Medifund assistance to needy Singaporeans who require HIV treatment, including medications.

Here's a update of what it means & who stands to benefit from it.

Quick Facts
  • For lowest bracket income
  • Allocated through hospital & assigned medical social worker
  • Only when patients are unable to afford medical bills despite subsidies, Medisave and MediShield
  • Only for cost incurred at Medifund-accredited institutions (e.g state hospital)
  • On a per-bill basis
  • Only for Singapore citizens

How do I apply for this fund ?

The medical social workers assist the Medifund Committees in collecting information from the patient and assessing their ability to afford the bill, based on their financial and social circumstances.

Medifund Committees decide the amount of Medifund assistance to be provided to each patient. Medifund assistance is only provided for bills incurred at a Medifund-accredited institutions (e.g. at the restructured hospitals).

Does it apply for all the drugs, if not, which class can a PWHIV use it for ?

Medifund may assist for any relevant ARV drugs that are necessary for persons with HIV.
